about Quetta, Pakistan
Nestled
among the awesome Chiltan and Koh-i-Murdar mountains, Quetta makes
a dramatic sight. The provincial capital of Balochistan, it lies
1,692 metres above sea level. The legendary region of Balochistan,
with its rugged mountains, parched earth, terraced valleys and extremes
of temperature, has developed distinct, identifiable and readable
patterns of architecture. The curving, rambling mud wall is the
basic and omnipresent building element - it defines the streets,
the fields, the orchards, the courtyards and the "abode".

A land
of stark, rugged beauty, the sight of Quetta will make you want
to stay. Its rich history, cultural heritage, rustic dwellings and
that sharp, urban contrast of the modern city ensure that Quetta
offers surprises at every curve of its valley.
The
months of December, January and February are fairly cold, but the
rest of the year is pleasant with moderate to high temperatures.
The
unit of currency is the Rupee. The official language is Urdu, but
English is widely spoken. The local languages are Balochi and Pushto.
